The difference with a normal web shop is time: a rental item is not &#8220;in stock&#8221; or &#8220;sold out&#8221;, it is available or booked for a period. Good rental software therefore handles at least:<\/p>\n<ul>\n <li>availability per date, with buffer time for cleaning and transport;<\/li>\n <li>a rental price per hour, day, weekend or week;<\/li>\n <li>online reservation and payment by the customer;<\/li>\n <li>automatic confirmation, invoice and status emails;<\/li>\n <li>an order overview or calendar for you and your team.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On top of that come features not every rental company needs, such as deposits, quotes, barcode scanning, transport planning, multiple locations or an accounting link. That is exactly where the price difference comes from.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"pricing-models\">The three pricing models<\/h2>\n<h3>1. Fixed fee per month<\/h3>\n<p>You pay one amount, however much you rent out. Predictable and easy to budget. Check whether &#8220;fixed&#8221; really is fixed: with many vendors the web shop, the app or extra users are separate add-ons on top of the base price.<\/p>\n<h3>2. Per user or per module<\/h3>\n<p>A base fee plus an amount per employee who plans or invoices, and sometimes per module (inventory, quotes, scanning). Works well for companies with a large team and specific needs, but the price climbs fast as soon as a second or third colleague needs access.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Commission or percentage of revenue<\/h3>\n<p>No or a low monthly fee, but a percentage per booking, often 1.5 to 7.5 percent. Attractive when you are just starting and revenue is low.
